The Hive Manifesto

The Hive manifesto is what drives us. It is our charge. It is the why to our what. Read about the intentions and values infused throughout all of our work.

We are the end of an old world.

A traumatic world.

A silenced world—

We are the beginning of a better one.

We are a world without criminalization.

Without incarceration.

Without violence—

A righteous world.

We are a world of care.

Of support.

Of healing—

A stronger world.

We are a community that is Black-led, and youth-driven.

A swarm of color.

We are a community that is connected.

A home to all.

We are a world where young people know what it means to thrive.

To come alive.

To become adults, in their time.

We are a world that makes noise.

We are the beginning of a better world.

A newer world.

A liberated world.

And it is buzzing.

It’s a Hive Thing. We believe in the Hive Mentality, “a collective consciousness in which a group of people become aware of their commonality and think and act as a community, sharing their knowledge, thoughts, and resources.”

We are returning to that collective consciousness. Rooted in our values of ubuntu, meaning “I am, because we are,” and sawubona, meaning “I see you,” we choose to see each other, always, and honor our capacity to heal. When we heal ourselves, we can heal each other, and healed people can heal the world.

We believe in young people. In tangible investments in their diverse needs, to reverse the intergenerational trauma caused by systemic racism and to solve our community's most pressing issues.

We have the power to change the course of our history. Madness is doing the same thing and expecting different results. So we do differently, and never sacrifice our integrity.  As Mama Maya Angelou says, “when we know better, we do better.”

We embrace the power of legacy. Of long-lasting, transformative change that leaves the next generation better off than how we birthed it.

For us, liberation is not an abstract idea. It is as tangible as the air we breathe. We will see liberation alive, today, in our lifetime.

And the only way we’re going to get there is through the Hive.
